Are You NUTS?
In a word, yes. On so many levels you’d never believe it, so we won’t bother to list them all!
To us, living full time with our kids, traveling in GREAT BIG ways and attempting the epic seem like the very best ways to spend life and to show our kids that anything they dream really is possible.
It does seem a bit nuts to hop in a van with eleven kids under 15 and drive 7000 miles for fun… which is all the more reason you should Get On The Bus and come along… it’s like a train wreck, you just can’t look away!
How Can You Afford This?
Honestly? We’re not sure we can! But that’s not going to stop us from working our hardest and chasing our dreams in very real ways!
We’re working hard, kids and Mamas, to save every precious penny we can. We’re finding ways to include other families in the journey, and we’re not too proud to ask for help!
What better use of a few bucks is there than helping to send a whole class full of kids across country?
Where Are You Going?
From the Atlantic to the Pacific and back. Along the way we’ll see as much of the “Real USA” as possible, tie in history, geography, science, literature, math, and more as we road school the kids. The whole point is their educational experience!
We’re taking suggestions for places to go, things to see and stuff we should definitely not miss! Be sure to weigh in and help us out!
Where Are You Staying?
Obviously, hotels are prohibitively expensive with 13 people (we’d need three rooms).
We have awesome Hilleberg Tents that we’ve camped across three continents in, so why not across the USA too? We’ll camp a lot. Our kids are professional campers, in fact!
We’re also planning to stay with families (in their yards is just fine!) and meet new people as we go!
What Will You Eat?
Three words: NOT FAST FOOD.
In fact, that will be one of our missions as we travel, to go clear across and clear back without succumbing to even ONE meal of fast food!
We’ll cook, we’ll get creative and we’ll share our secrets with the families that follow us, but especially with our Bus Riders!

What fun and what joy! I’ll be especially curious to know what you EAT the whole way – where you find it and how you prepare it! One thing I must say, ladies, is that you must be ORGANIZED, holy schmokes. God bless and Happy Trails!
Haha Jolyn, we just fake the whole “organized” thing pretty well! We do however follow Jenn’s Uncle Dick’s advice about the 7 P’s. You can read about them here:

We attempt to strike the balance between organization & reality. With this many children, the best laid plans will most certainly go astray…
